Circular Weaving
9th May 2026
10am - 4pm
Ceridwen Centre, Carmarthenshire, SA44 5XE
Come and spend a day at Ceridwen Centre creating circular weaving, on a round loom. We will be in the Old Dairy, a beautiful and spacious converted barn. This is a gorgeous, relaxing venue on an organic farm. A delicious organic lunch and refreshments will be included as part of the day.

You will learn the basics of weaving on a circular wooden loom, using a bodkin needle to weave with. You  will be able to build up colour, tone and texture and come away with your own hand made creative round weaving, which you can display as a wall hanging. We will practice plain weave with the option to learn a variety of weaving stitches, including soumak, knotting, rya knots, pick and pick, bubble weave and more.

There will be pieces of driftwood for you to choose from to hang your circular weaving on, if you'd like to take your weaving off the loom. Or you will have the option to purchase the loom and leave your weaving on it, to use as a frame for hanging it from. As well as making beautiful wall hangings, circular weaving can also be created to make round bags and purses, jewellery, place mats, coasters, motifs on fabric etc.
All materials will be provided, including coloured yarn, some of it from local Welsh sheep, as well as mixed media including interesting threads, recycled fabrics, ribbons, wools tops, beads and buttons to select from and incorporate into your weaving. You are welcome to bring any of your own favourite wool, threads and mixed media that you'd like to add to your creation.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as those with some experience who want to experiment with circular weaving. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including imagery by other circle weavers. You will be given an information sheet with some historical context and weaving terminology, as well as links to weaving resources.

The images above are of my own circular weavings plus the Ceridwen Centre lunch we had on my recent Exploring Collage day. You can see images from my other weaving workshops on my Gallery page.
