Exploring Collage
at Ceridwen Centre, Carmarthenshire. What a wonderful day of expressive creativity at this beautiful and friendly venue, with delicious organic food. Participants made mixed media collages and in some cases, more than one. They used paper, card, magazines, buttons, beads, wire, fabric, threads, driftwood, leaves, poetry and more... it was truly inspiring to see what they made and to spend a day in such a welcoming atmosphere.
A day of Creative Weaving at Narberth Museum, Pembrokeshire. A wonderful welcome at this inspiring venue... After learning to warp up a table top frame loom and how to create plain weave, as well as other weaving techniques, participants were free to explore different weaving methods. They selected from an array of yarns, including local ones, as well as mixed media such as wool tops, beads, selvedge waste and wire. Colour and texture were truly celebrated to create unique wall hangings on driftwood.
Feltmaking at Moylegrove Arts & Craft group, Pembrokeshire. In the first session the group made wet felted fabric and in the second they created needle felted designs on the surface. These afternoon workshops took place in the lovely Moylegrove village hall. Although the sessions were unthemed, you will see inspiration from the nearby gorgeous coast in their felted pieces, which most of them will use as textural wall hangings.

A second whole day of Creative Papermaking for beginners and intermediate levels using the pouring pulp method, with recycled papers. Explorations involved adding inclusions such as petals and leaves; embossing, stripes, layering and expanding of scale. It took place at the inspiring eco build Y Stiwdio, Hermon, Pembrokeshire and was hosted by Cwm Arian Renewable Energy. This time it was funded by The Ashley Family Foundation. See Gallery entry a bit further below for images from the first delivery of this workshop.

Coastal Weaving at Oriel Y Parc Visitors Centre, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire. This was a morning of weaving inspired by the beautiful West Wales coastline. Participants were shown how to warp up a table top frame loom and how to weave using plain weave, rya knots and soumak stitch. There was much focus and exploration of colour and texture in this spacious and vibrant eco venue on the edge of Britain's smallest city.

Landscape Wet Felting at Ceridwen Centre, Carmarthenshire. This was one of the workshops offered alongside the annual Arts at Ceridwen summer exhibition. We made felt in the beautiful Old Dairy, a spacious converted barn with lots of light. Ceridwen Centre is on 40 acres of organic farmland and has some truly beautiful eco venues on site, as well as a cafe. Participants learnt how to make a piece of felt, using inspiration from the colours and textures of the landscape, taking home a piece of driftwood to hang their felted fabric on as a wall hanging.
A morning of Coastal Feltmaking at Oriel Y Parc Visitors Centre, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire. We were in the Discovery Room, a lovely space to work in with the buzz of being in the heart of a thriving eco centre alongside galleries, a cafe and the Pembrokeshire National Park shop. Participants learnt how to make felt and selected colours and textures inspired by the coast. They all took a piece of driftwood home with them to hang their felt pieces from once they're dry.

A day of Experimental Weaving for beginners at Ceridwen Centre in The Pole Barn, a wonderful eco barn conversion on an organic farm in Carmarthenshire, where they provided us with a delicious lunch. Participants learnt to warp up a frame loom and how to weave a wall hanging. They were taught a variety of weaving stitches and used their creativity to explore colour and texture. They used coloured yarns and mixed media such as beads, shells, buttons, wire, thread and feathers.

I was invited by

the Pembrokeshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers to teach this beginners Creative Papermaking workshop, in Y Stiwdio, Hermon. They were creating paper with a view to making their own paper books to add a woven, spun and/or hand dyed cover to, as part of a National Guild exhibition happening in the Autumn. Handmade recycled papermaking is a lovely additional personal touch to the exhibition brief.

This beginners
Creative Papermaking workshop used recycled paper and a variety of textural additions including plant matter and threads.
It took place at the beautiful eco building Y Stiwdio, Hermon, Pembrokeshire; a Cwm Arian Renewable Energy venture.
The workshop was funded by Community Foundation Wales.
