Come and spend the day creating your own seasonal woven wall hanging at Narberth Museum. This is a beautiful venue with a spacious art studio and within easy walking distance of Narberth town centre, with its creative shops and cafes.
Taking inspiration from the colours and textures each season brings, you will learn or develop the basics of weaving, depending on your experience. This will take place on a simple table-top wooden frame loom, using a bodkin needle to weave with. You may wish to choose one season for your weaving theme or a combination of all four, either reflecting the wintery season we'll be in or evoking warmth and light from the qualities of the other seasons.
You will be shown plain weave, as well as other weaving stitches. There will be a selection of driftwood sticks for you to choose from to hang your creative weaving on.
All materials will be provided, including coloured yarn, some of it from local Welsh sheep, as well as mixed media including interesting threads, wool tops, dried poppy heads, acorn cups, recycled fabrics, raffia, ribbons and buttons for you to choose from and incorporate into your weaving. You are welcome to bring any of your own favourite wool, threads, etc. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as those with some experience who want to experiment further. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including seasonally inspired imagery by other weavers, as well as. You will be given an information sheet with some historical context and weaving terminology, as well as links to weaving resources.
There is a cafe in the museum where you can buy refreshments and there are cafes nearby in the town where you can buy lunch. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, if you prefer.
